Sarah Jennings, a qualified primary school teacher and school PE lead introduces this hour-long Net and Wall course. The course aims to enhance knowledge and confidence in teaching Net and Wall activities and provides useful links for additional resources.
Sarah covers that Net and Wall games, involve playing with a net or against the wall as a fundamental element of the game. Examples like tennis, badminton, volleyball, pickleball, and Tennikoit are discussed. This course emphasises the development of fundamental movement skills like running, hand-eye coordination, and more. Tennikoit and Pickleball, two popular net games, are highlighted.
The course covers a typical lesson structure that includes warmup, teaching skills, applying skills in competition, and reflection. Key elements of lesson structure for different Key Stages are explained.
Subject-specific terminology related to net and racket sports is discussed, covering terms like shot, serve, and concepts like scoring systems for tennis and badminton.
