James Latham, a PE lead at a Multi Academy Trust, leads this course, the aim of which is to boost knowledge and confidence in teaching invasion games through flexible learning and covers lesson structure, terminology, scaffolding, and progression.
The course delves into the concept of Invasion Games, which involve fast-paced sports where teams invade their opponent's territory to score points. It highlights popular Invasion Games like netball, hockey, tag rugby, and football emphasising how these games align with the National Curriculum and core skills development, including attacking, defending, and ball control.
Insights into a typical lesson structure are covered in this course, emphasising the importance of engaging warm-ups for physical and cognitive readiness. In addition, skills development is covered and how employing various equipment and techniques can be used to accommodate varying ability levels and how these can be applied in game situations to improve personal growth and success.
The progression of Invasion Games within the National Curriculum is discussed, showcasing small-sided games at different stages and the development of skills, tactics, and understanding.
